In addition to the materials of different colors, various injection molding products also need to be matched with different types of plastic materials, such as:

1) A product that combines hardware and software. In most cases, soft-hard products are made of a combination of thermoplastic materials and thermoplastic elastomers (such as TUE, TPU, etc.). This combination can give the product a hard, corrosion-resistant base, and can also be sealed, shockproof, or more comfortable. Feel, such as handle products.

When different materials are combined and formed, the adhesion between the raw materials needs to be considered. In addition, the shrinkage rate, thermal expansion coefficient and forming processing temperature between them also need to be considered. As long as the design permits, bonding strength can be improved through mechanical connections and chemical reactions of internal mechanisms.

2) Products combined with liquid silicone rubber (LSR). Compared with thermoplastic elastomers, LSR has better temperature resistance and mechanical properties, and its application in multi-material injection molding processes has attracted more and more attention.

Due to the high temperature of LSR, mold insulation issues become a challenge during mold design. When molding LSR, the mold usually needs to be designed with a cold runner system that is fully insulated from the hot runner system that molds the thermoplastic material. In addition, there are currently very limited materials that can withstand LSR forming temperatures. For example, PA, PPS, and PETP are materials suitable for LSR combined forming.

3) Products combined with electroplating/conductive materials. Three-way conducting conductor components can be manufactured by combining materials with plating/conductivity and materials without plating/conductivity.

4) In-mold components. Two incompatible materials can become interconnected and movable parts when joined through injection molding. This is called in-mold assembly of the part. Due to differences and incompatibilities in plastic part size, shrinkage rates, parts injection molded from the two materials can be used in car air outlets, toys, mechanical connection parts, etc.
