This article mainly introduces commonly used Medical Parts Mould plastics, which are composed of materials that are easy to process into shapes. These
Medical Plastic Injection Moulding plastics tend to be costly relative to weight because most of the material is lost to debris during processing.
1. Acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene (ABS)
Terpolymer is made from SAN (styrene-acrylonitrile) and butadiene synthetic rubber. SAN (styrene-acrylonitrile) gives ABS its hardness and surface finish, and butadiene gives it toughness. Typically available in 4-inch-thick sheets and rods up to 6-inches in diameter, the plastic can be easily bonded and laminated to create thicker sheets and components. Due to its reasonable cost and ease of processing, it is a popular material for computer numerical control (CNC) manufacturing prototypes.
2. Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
PVC comes in rigid and flexible forms, depending on whether plasticizers are added. PVC is commonly used for water pipes.
The main disadvantages of PVC are poor weather resistance, relatively low impact strength, and the rather high weight of the thermoplastic sheet (specific gravity 1.35). It is easily scratched or damaged and has a relatively low thermal distortion point (160).
Unplasticized PVC is produced in two main formulations: Type I (corrosion resistant) and Type II (high impact). Type I PVC is the most commonly used PVC, but Type II has better impact resistance and slightly reduced corrosion resistance in applications that require higher impact strength than Type I offers. In applications requiring high-temperature formulations, polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) for high-purity applications is available up to approximately 280°F.
3. Polypropylene (PP)
PP is a lightweight, inexpensive polyolefin plastic with a low melting point, making it ideal for thermoforming and plastic mould food packaging. PP is flammable, so if fire resistance is required, look for a flame retardant (FR) grade. PP is resistant to bending and is commonly known as "100-fold glue". For applications that require bending, PP can be used.
